My Degree, My Country ,My World



Life without an ambition would become meaningless. So each & everyone should have an ambition. Likewise, my childhood ambition was to become a doctor. Unfortunately, I couldn’t success my dream & have selected health promotion degree. Now I am happy to select this degree than any other degrees. From this I can do a great services for the community. This degree is different from other degree. Because we have a great opportunity to get many experience through our field work.
Health promotion leads us to improve our quality of life. Lot of degrees in Sri Lanka focus to get a good job easily. But our degree focus not only job also improved our wellbeing. All students who are following a health promotion should do field work according to the health promotion principles. It is one of the interesting part of the health promotion. In our field work, I got lot of experience for my life. How to facilitate the community, how to deal with them & how to identify determinant are some of them.
Health promotion is a process & depend on community base approach. We have ability to work with different typed of settings such as villages, schools, army camps AG offices & hospitals. In our field work, firstly we find out health issues & identify the determinants of above health issues. Then plan different type of interventions with the community & continue our process while monitoring & evaluation. Malnutrition among children, overweight among women & men, poor ECCD practices, tobacco & alcohol usage & family happiness are some of health issues that we have to cover within two year time period. I get great satisfaction from these work.
I am able to provide a great services to the community than being a doctor. So, I am happy to select health promotion & I am proud of my degree. I am lucky to follow health promotion degree. Finally, I wish to give my best service to my country as a health promoter.

I’m following Bachelor of Information and Technology in Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. It is generally a three year degree program and, if any student wish to follow four year special degree that student can follow it according to their GPA value. During these three years I have to learn many subjects. Some of them are Web technology, Internet programming, Software engineering etc. In my degree program I’m allowing to learn not only ICT related subjects, but also subjects like Marketing, Professional English which are related to other fields. Actually it is a good guidance to my future life. In Sri Lanka, there are so many IT companies that we can give our service and get a high salary such as Millennium IT, WSO2, Vertusa Polaris.
