My Degree, My Country and My World

My Degree, My Country, My World

I can still remember the first day I stepped into Rajarata University of Srilanka.  Widen eyes, tensed mind and a frozen body  are some simple descriptions to my own self on that day. Today, It`s been more than one and half years and I am a second year student who follows the degree in Information and Communication Technology field.

At present, The current world is known as ‘Modern World’ or ‘Globalized World’ and  IT is the factor which made this vast change. My degree program, ICT, includes almost all the parts in information and communication technology field such as Programming, Web Design, Image Processing, Software Engineering etc.   Theory part of each lesson gives us the basic knowledge regarding the course  and each practical session gives us the courage to find solutions to the real world problems. Practical sessions also gives the urge to find some innovative inventions.

ICT plays a major role in Srilankan Economy. According to many surveys, IT is the largest industry next to Garments in Srilanka. Import and export of smallest handheld devices to the largest computers brings a largest income to our country. Most of the business processes are computerized and each system and organization needs people with IT knowledge. It increases the job opportunities which is considered as one of the major benefits of IT industry.

Today Srilanka is  competing with many other developed countries with the association of IT. It helps us to find the problems and lack of resources in each part of island without visiting the specific area. According to the problems, IT helps to find temporary or permanent solutions.

As a degree holder of ICT, I think I will be a resource to my country. With the assistance of my degree I hope to give my maximum assurance to develop my country in the global world. I also have silent will to try my best to give knowledge to the 4%  people who are not blessed with the primary and secondary education in my country .

So, I hope my degree would be a great strength for me to face the world in future.
